Importance of the best Natural Skincare Brands

If you have dry, problematic skin, you might be tempted to buy expensive products which contain cutting-edge, bio-technologic ingredients with hopes of getting some relief. But you are probably going to be frustrated and disappointed with the poor results after 3-4 months’ application.

The producers of the better natural skincare brands care about quality and ethics much more than bio-engineering technology. More and more natural skincare companies stress that their beauty products are cruelty-free and some happily put a bunny logo on their product packaging. So in this post, I will talk a little bit about two positive movements in the global cosmetics market – vegan skincare and cruelty-free beauty products.

Vegan skincare:

A true vegan skincare product must not contain any ingredients which come from animals and animals by-products. While natural skincare is often assumed to be plant-derived, it can also contain animal-derived ingredients. If you are a loyal vegan consumer or simply want to avoid using animal ingredients, check the product label carefully before purchasing it. The following list shows some common non-vegan ingredients which you may need to look out for.

  • ·         Honey
  • ·         Beeswax
  • ·         Emu oil  (Emu is a flightless bird, native to Australia)
  • ·         Milk
  • ·         Lanolin (comes from sheep)
  • ·         Placenta
  • ·         Shellac (resin secreted by female insects, it is normally used in making nail vanish)
  • ·         Stem cells

What are cruelty-free cosmetics?

Cruelty-free cosmetics refer to those beauty products which have not made use of toxicity tests on animals (mostly using mice, rats and rabbits’ eyes and their skin for testing purpose).

According to the website of the Humane Society International (HSI), 40 countries have passed laws to ban cosmetic animal testing. The European Union and India are among the first regions/countries to ban sales of animal-tested cosmetics; both legally banned this practice in 2013. However, in 2020, in many countries it is still legal to use rabbits and other animals in cruel toxicity tests of cosmetic products and their ingredients. For example, in China, it is a legal requirement for many types of cosmetics. All beauty products sold into China are required to be tested on animals, despite the 'Be Cruelty–Free China' campaign has been working hard to end some mandatory animal testing on domestically manufactured non-special-use cosmetics. And even in the USA and Canada, animal testing on skincare products is still not officially banned by legislations; the only exception is the state of California. Other states in the USA are still in the stage of drawing up regulations to ban animal testing.

It is interesting to note that if a skincare product is made in the EU, there is no need to put a bunny logo or to state that it is cruelty-free because it is a legal requirement in cosmetics and foods industry. It is absolutely prohibited. So if you are shopping for cosmetics in the EU, you can be confident that your purchases have not been tested on animals. Some natural skincare products show a bunny logo on their packaging. Needless to say, it is more for marketing purpose rather than a necessity.

Globally, a beauty brand cannot claim it is a cruelty-free brand if it is selling some products which have been tested on animals in a country where it is still a legal practice in order to evaluate its efficacy and to test whether or not it causes skin irritation.

Benefits of vegan facial products

You should pick quality skincare products with premium elements for results you will cherish. Normally, plant-based (botanic-based) skincare products are the best choice for healthy skin, as they use the purest ingredients that give longer-enduring outcomes.

Vegan skincare are generally gentler on the skin and safer to use in the long term for all skin types, unlike cheap synthetic ingredients that are commonly found in the cosmetics industry where mass production and long-shelve life is still the mainstream. Using pure, high-quality organic ingredients, setting prices that most people can afford, and rewarding customers who recycle re-usable containers is what distinguishes Moonette from many other brands.

All Moonette skincare products are made in Spain. They are 100% natural and cruelty free, and vegan friendly.

All our products are free from:

  • ·         Alcohol
  • ·         petrochemicals (paraffin, silicones, PEGs)

Our formulae are based on unadulterated plant oils and extracts, and are kind to skin; they are created to care for mature and sensitive skin. Every ingredient we use in our skincare range meets certified organic standards from Ecocert, the Soil Association or Nature.
